Relaunch of an existing TYPO3 website
You want to keep the existing subdomain:
Register the existing subdomain again. You can work in the backend and preview the website via the backend domain cmsXY.univie.ac.at/subdomain. Only when you send us a ticket requesting that the new website go live will the old website be taken offline and the new website put online under the same domain. The backend of the old website will remain available until the end of 2026.- You want to change your subdomain:
Register the new subdomain. In the ‘Comments’ field, write which “old” subdomain should be replaced by the new subdomain. When you write to the TYPO3 Service Desk to request that the new website go live, please let us know what should happen to the ‘old’ subdomain (deletion or archiving). The backend of the old website will remain in available until the end of 2026.

Choosing a suitable subdomain
eep the following points in mind when choosing a subdomain:
- Short and memorable: Choose a short and memorable subdomain that is easy to enter and remember. Avoid using lots of hyphens, numbers and umlauts. (Capital letters have no effect in domains.)
- Relevance: The subdomain name should reflect what can be found on the website in order to meet expectations.
- Long-term use: Choose a name that allows you to expand the website with similar topics or use it again for the next conference/symposium/etc. Do not use a year that limits your website to just one year!
- International orientation: English (or similar) names are useful for international target groups.
→ Subdomains that are intended solely as redirects do not need their own page registration. Please simply enter this information in the Service Desk as additional information when going live.
Possible subdomains:
- desiredname.univie.ac.at
- desired-name.univie.ac.at
- long-desired-name.univie.ac.at
Avoid numbers!
- NOT desiredname2025.univie.ac.at
This is not possible:
- No dots are allowed in the desired name (desired.name.univie.ac.at)
- There is no distinction between upper and lower case letters
