These elements enable news entries to be displayed on a website. There are two versions, which differ only in how the detailed view of news entries is handled:
- News article list (including detailed view)
This element is also capable of rendering the detailed view of news items. This means that no separate detailed view needs to be created and assigned in the plug-in.
Advantage: The editorial effort required to set up a news system is slightly reduced due to the elimination of the separate detailed view.
Disadvantage: The editor has no influence on the specific URL path of the news detailed view, as this is automatically created by the plug-in.
- News article list (excluding detail view)
This element is exactly the same as you are already familiar with from older TYPO3 versions previously used at the University of Vienna. Here, a separate detail view (element “Detail view of news articles”) must be created and assigned in the plug-in (under “Further settings” > “Page ID for detail view”).
Advantage: The editor can help determine the specific URL path of the news detail view, depending on where he/she places the detail view in the page tree.
Disadvantage: Because the detail view has to be created separately, the editorial effort is slightly higher.
Both elements can be displayed in two different variants: in the form of special news teasers in a multi-column layout (standard) or as a simple list. In the first variant, up to three news entries—each with an image, date, category, author, title, and a short text (max. 150 characters before “...”)—can be displayed side by side in a row. In the second variant, the news entries are presented one below the other in list form – each with date, title, and short text. The number of entries per page and their sorting (e.g., by date) can be set manually. If there are several pages, pagination can be displayed as an option.
Detailed view of news articles
The detailed view itself offers a fixed, predefined header area (gray background) with the date, category, author, title, subtitle, and an image. Below this, all content elements can be used to flexibly display the content of the corresponding news item. Here are a few examples:
Notes: The news entries themselves are collected in a separate folder in the TYPO3 backend. The element can display entries from one or more selected folders or from one or more categories. Individual news entries can also be assigned to multiple categories. In the mobile view, the news items are displayed one below the other. Alternatively, the element can be displayed with a gray background.
